A dedicated initiative of the Lok Rakshak Sena Foundation, developed in partnership with Chandrahas Technologies, to advance artificial intelligence rooted in Indian civilisational wisdom.
The Question
What if intelligence, not just capability, is the point?
The dominant frame around artificial intelligence today is a race — for scale, for speed, for market. The Foundation contends this frame is insufficient. Intelligence, in the older Indian sense of the word, is not merely the ability to solve problems; it is the disciplined orientation of the mind toward truth, service, and the welfare of all beings.
We believe an artificial intelligence that inherits only the racing frame will produce impressive systems that leave the deeper questions unasked. An artificial intelligence that inherits both the racing frame and the older frame may still make errors — but it will make different, and more interesting, errors.
The AI Mission is our contribution to that second path.
What We Are Doing
Two goals. One method.
Goal 1 — Recover what has been lost
Much of India’s scientific, mathematical, medical, architectural, and philosophical heritage remains scattered across manuscripts, archaeological sites, and living scholarly traditions — often unread, unindexed, and cross-referenced only in the minds of a few specialists.
We are supporting the systematic recovery of this heritage through rigorous methods: archaeological survey, astronomical dating of textual references, palaeographic analysis, digitisation, translation, and cross-referencing across corpora that no single scholar can hold in one head.
Goal 2 — Build technology that carries these values
The technology arm of the Foundation, led by our Chief Technology Officer and delivered in partnership with Chandrahas Technologies, is developing systems that are:
- Trained with attention to the philosophical assumptions embedded in their design
- Capable of engaging with classical Indian texts as source material, not decoration
- Guided in their ethical framing by living scholarly and spiritual traditions
- Designed to serve society, nature, and future generations — not only present users
Research Directions
Five areas of active work.
The framework of cyclical time
The classical Indian view of time is not linear but cyclical, structured through yugas and the great cycles of creation and dissolution. This is not mere mythology; it is a considered cosmological framework with implications for how we model long time-horizons in complex systems. We are studying this framework rigorously — both as history of thought and as a source of testable claims.
The antiquity of Vedic-era India
The dating of the Vedic corpus and the civilisations that produced it remains actively contested. Modern methods — astronomical back-computation of references in the texts, archaeological survey of sites named in them, palaeoclimatology of river systems — can move this debate onto firmer evidentiary ground. We are supporting that work.
The historical grounding of the great epics
The Ramayana and Mahabharata have long been treated in modern scholarship as literary or mythological texts. A parallel line of enquiry treats them as historical accounts distorted by time. This research direction pursues that parallel line with archaeological, geographical, and astronomical evidence, and reports what the evidence supports and what it does not.
The sciences preserved in classical Sanskrit literature
Astronomy and mathematics (jyotisha), medicine (ayurveda), architecture and engineering (vastu and shilpa), metallurgy, linguistics, logic, and the science of consciousness are all subjects with extensive Sanskrit literatures. Much of this material has been translated only partially and studied only in fragments. We are supporting comprehensive digitisation, translation, and cross-referenced analysis.
The continuous thread of Indian governance and culture
India’s political, cultural, and technological history is often taught as a series of discontinuities. A different reading — supported by inscriptional, numismatic, and literary evidence — traces continuities across dynasties, regions, and languages. We are supporting research that assembles this evidence coherently.
How We Build
In partnership with Chandrahas Technologies.
The Foundation is not itself a technology company. The technical work of the AI Mission is delivered by Chandrahas Technologies Pvt. Ltd. — an independent private company with nine years of applied work in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The two organisations are formally distinct. The Foundation sets research direction, ethical constraints, and priorities. Chandrahas Technologies carries out the engineering and delivers technical outputs. The relationship is governed by a partnership agreement that ensures independence in both directions.
Shivam Goswami serves as Co-Founder, CEO and Managing Director of Chandrahas Technologies, and as Chief Technology Officer of the Foundation. This dual role reflects the intentional integration of technical delivery and Foundation stewardship for the AI Mission.
Who Advises Us
Guided by living scholarly and spiritual traditions.
The AI Mission’s ethical direction is informed by engagement with India’s living scholarly and spiritual traditions. This engagement is consultative: we listen, we consider, and we retain accountability for our own decisions.
The traditions we engage with include the classical Vedantic and Puranic scholarly lineages, the traditions of the Shankaracharyas and other established monastic leaderships, the Jain and Buddhist scholarly traditions active in India today, and individual scholars, scientists, historians, and archaeologists working on India’s past.
No engagement of this kind is a public endorsement of the Foundation or its methods by the tradition or scholar concerned. Where consultative engagement has taken place, we describe it as consultative engagement and nothing more.
Use of Funds
What contributions to the AI Mission support.
Research grants. Direct support to individuals and institutions doing rigorous research in the five directions above.
Digitisation and translation. The systematic capture and translation of primary source material that is currently inaccessible.
Technical development. The building of tools and systems that make the recovered material usable — search, cross-reference, structured databases, and interfaces designed for both scholars and general users.
Scholarly convenings. Bringing researchers, technologists, and traditional scholars together in structured working sessions.
Dissemination. Publication, open-access hosting, and translation of results so that the work reaches the audiences it should reach.
A note on funds flowing to the technology partner. Where mission funds are used to procure technical services from Chandrahas Technologies, the arrangement is disclosed, priced at fair market rates, and documented in the Foundation’s annual accounts. This is a related-party arrangement and it is treated with the transparency such arrangements require.
Independence
Not affiliated with any government programme.
The AI Mission is a wholly independent initiative of the Lok Rakshak Sena Foundation. It is not part of, funded by, or officially affiliated with any national or state government artificial intelligence programme, past or present. It does not represent official government policy on artificial intelligence, on India’s history, or on any other subject.
Where our conclusions align with official positions we say so. Where they diverge we say so. Neither the alignment nor the divergence should be read as endorsement.
